What happens if we stop.
Ten carbon software companies were acquired, absorbed or shut down in the eighteen months to mid-2026. If you are about to put several years of emissions history into a system, that is a rational thing to ask about, and almost nobody in this category will answer it.
Your ledger leaves in open formats, at any time
On any paid plan, every figure, its full lineage and the audit trail export as CSV and XLSX from inside the product, without asking us and without a support ticket. Filed report PDFs are yours to download and keep. The export is not a wind-down feature; it is there from the first day of the plan.
One limit stated plainly rather than discovered: the free tier shows full lineage on screen but does not include bulk export. If we ever discontinued the service, we would open export to every account, free tier included, for the whole notice period. That is a commitment rather than a current feature, and this page is where you should hold us to it.
The record stays checkable without us
This is the part that makes the export worth having. Every figure names its emission factor, the publisher, the dataset version and the licence. Those publishers are public bodies: DESNZ, the EPA, ADEME, the IPCC, Ember. If we disappear tomorrow, an auditor can take your export, look up the same factor at the same publisher, and recompute your number by hand. A ledger whose provenance points only at the vendor is worth very little once the vendor is gone.
If we are acquired or discontinue the service
- We will give notice before the service ends, and say so here as well as by email.
- Export will be available to every account for the whole of the notice period, including free-tier accounts that do not normally have it.
- Your data will not be sold, and it is not part of what an acquirer could buy separately from the obligations attached to it.
- Filed reports remain downloadable throughout, because they are the record the service existed to keep.
The honest risk
CoreCanopy is operated by a small company. There is concentration risk in that, and no amount of policy language removes it. What we can do is make sure the thing you would lose is only the software, never the record: open exports, public factor sources, and figures you could reconstruct on paper. That is why the product is built the way it is.
This page states commitments we intend to be held to. They will be reflected in the contract set currently in review with counsel; where the executed contract and this page differ, the contract governs.
